G-20 Sketch Blog: Little Protester Days PDF Print E-mail

Last night as I was returning from attempting to follow the protesters (which was a little like chasing a tornado that kept breaking up into smaller storms) I was driving down Liberty Ave. in Bloomfield along with a line of swat vehicles filled with riot police. Small groups of the protesters were sitting on the sidewalks, their backs to the storefronts. The more violent factions had moved on to Oakland.

As I was driving I noticed police barriers blocking all of the small side streets. At first I thought they were there to contain protesters, but then I realized it was just Bloomfield preparing for their Italian Festival, "Little Italy Days." I could just imagine a young protester confronting one of the older residents about the police barriers.
